Yirgacheffe is the name buyers reach for when they want to demonstrate what Ethiopian coffee can do. Tea-like body, bright acidity, and a perfume of citrus blossom — these are the cups that built modern specialty.
A short history
A district within the larger Gedeo Zone, Yirgacheffe rose to global recognition in the 1970s when European importers began isolating its washed lots. Today it is the most internationally recognised single origin from Ethiopia, with dozens of cooperative washing stations operating under the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union umbrella.
"Yirgacheffe is non-negotiable on our menu. Every season we taste fifty offers and still find lots that surprise us — that floral lift is unmatched anywhere in the world."— Head of Coffee, Nordic specialty roaster
